Register for our upcoming webinar on community and NTD scorecards

As part of the events organised for World Rabies Day 2021, we are delighted to be joined by Speak Up Africa to host a virtual event to discuss how scorecards can enhance community engagement for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

Join us for the virtual event on 28 September 2021

  • London: 1pm to 2pm (BST)
  • East Africa Time: 3pm to 4pm

The webinar will be in French, with English interpretation available.

NTDs are a group of preventable and treatable diseases that affect 1.5 billion people. During the webinar, you will learn how countries like Congo use the scorecard tool to track progress and stimulate action to combat these diseases that affect the world’s most vulnerable populations. We will also talk about how the scorecard tool can be used at the community level to enhance community ownership and increase accountability at all levels.

The webinar is being jointly hosted by Speak Up Africa and the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA). Speakers will include:

  • Yacine Djibo (Executive Director, Speak Up Africa)
  • Joy Phumaphi (Executive Secretary, ALMA)

How the Rwanda malaria and NTD scorecard tool is supporting the country’s efforts in progressing towards elimination

Rwanda is one of the African countries that have shown tremendous progress toward the elimination of malaria and control of neglected tropical diseases. Efforts that have enabled this progress include innovative mechanisms such as the expansion of community health workers to treat the whole population, and the development of the malaria and NTD scorecard for action and accountability tool to track and drive progress.

First developed in 2017, the scorecard was recently decentralised. All 30 districts have been trained on the use of the tool to further enhance data-driven decision-making. In addition, the scorecard was also adapted for use by civil society organisations to further enhance community engagement.

Tracking progress on the Commonwealth commitment of halving malaria by 2023

In April 2018, the 53 leaders of Commonwealth countries made a commitment to halve malaria by 2023. This commitment, which if achieved, could prevent up to 350 million cases of malaria and save as many as 650,000 lives. The Commonwealth Malaria Tracker – an online dashboard – was developed to track and visualise progress. The tracker also documents countries’ best practices, including case studies featuring the work undertaken to continue malaria programming in the face of COVID-19.
