Youth engagement

His Excellency, Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya and Chair of ALMA, made engaging young people in the fight against malaria a key part of his legacy agenda. This commitment supports the African Union’s (AU) efforts to encourage youth leadership towards the goals set in the Africa Youth Charter, the AU Roadmap on Harnessing the Demographic Dividend Through Investments in Youth (PDF) and Agenda 2063.

As part of His Excellency’s legacy agenda for his two-year term as ALMA, President Kenyatta has started work to:

  • create a malaria youth army to help eliminate malaria and contribute towards universal health coverage
  • champion youth engagement and resource commitments for malaria elimination – working with young leaders that are already advancing the broader health and development agenda across the continent

Now is the time to leverage the potential of young people to eliminate malaria by 2030, and work with them for faster and more effective delivery of health services at all levels.
