We established an independent awards committee for the ALMA Joyce Kafanabo Awards for Excellence and Innovation. The independent awards committee were tasked with:

• choosing the 6 award categories to recognise the width breadth of achievement from African countries in 2022
• assessing the countries’ progress across the award categories
• selecting the successful countries to be honoured in the award categories

To help the awards committee, we assessed each country using the Scorecard Maturity assessment tool which helps identify where a country scorecard is performing well and where it needs further improvement.
