How countries are using their RMNCAH scorecards to track adolescent health

This month, we are publishing a new analysis of how countries across Africa are using adolescent health-specific indicators to identify performance shortfalls and trigger corrective action. Our analysis shows that in 2014, most countries had only one adolescent health indicator, with many countries that wanted to prioritise adolescent health indicators not having data available for their routine monitoring.

Using the scorecard mechanism to highlight data gaps to decision makers, countries including Botswana, Ghana, Madagascar, Rwanda, Senegal, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Burundi, Malawi, Eswatini, Tanzania, The Gambia and Zambia now include up to four adolescent indicators. The adolescent health indicators most tracked relate to the prevalence of adolescent pregnancies, availability of adolescent-friendly services and access to family planning.

How Tanzania has used the scorecard to help engage parliamentarians in the fight against malaria

The NMCP (national malaria control programme), with support from ALMA and the Comic Relief GSK Partnership, partnered with TAPAMA, a parliamentary caucus on malaria, to train 60 members of parliament on the use of the Scorecard Web Platform and mobile app. The scorecard tool is used to increase awareness about the malaria situation, support the identification of bottlenecks and drive action. Giving access to the latest data to parliamentarians allows them to use their influence and platforms to support malaria initiatives, sensitise their constituents, and ultimately help make key decisions regarding policies and budget allocations.
