We were delighted to be joined by the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) to host a virtual event on 22 February 2022 to celebrate the Scorecard Hub’s first anniversary.

His Excellency, Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya and Chair of ALMA launched the ALMA Scorecard Hub in February 2021. This webinar celebrated the one-year anniversary of the hub and renewed our commitment to continuing His Excellency’s vision for the Scorecard Hub of encouraging accountability and data transparency to drive action and impact.

During the webinar, we launched the Scorecard Maturity self-assessment tool – a simple and accessible online tool to guide countries with assessing and improving their scorecards, shared Zambia’s experience with scorecards and the Workplan Manager and shared the Scorecard Hub’s plans for 2022.

Scorecard management tools support decision-makers to quickly review performance data, identify bottlenecks and track the implementation of actions to address them. ALMA has established itself as a leader in helping countries develop and implement scorecards to drive action and impact.

Introducing the Scorecard Maturity self-assessment tool

We launched the Scorecard Maturity self-assessment tool – a simple and accessible online tool to guide countries with assessing and improving their scorecards. The self-assessment tool helps countries:

• assess their scorecard based on a set of 5 Key Success Factors that are vital for scorecard success
• understand where their scorecard is performing well and where it needs further improvement
• access a list of curated recommended improvements tailor to their specific scorecard situation
• learn how other countries have overcome similar challenges to improve their scorecards
• request further help from the African Leaders Malaria Alliance

The simple online tool works on computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones with a web browser and internet connection.

If you lead your country’s scorecard work, the ALMA focal point for your country will contact you over the coming weeks to support you with using the Scorecard Maturity self-assessment tool.

Our country focal point can help guide you through the self-assessment tool and support you with making the suggested recommended improvements.

Zambia’s experience with scorecard tools and the Workplan Manager

Dr Busiku Hamainza, Assistant Director of the National Malaria Elimination Centre at the Zambia Ministry of Health presented Zambia’s experience of using scorecard tools and the Scorecard Web Platform’s Workplan Manager in Zambia’s fight against malaria.

Dr Hamainza explained how embedding scorecard tools and the Workplan Manager into their accountability structures has led to improved management and decision making at the National Malaria Elimination Centre, End Malaria Council and End Malaria Fund. The assistant director also shared how the malaria scorecard in Zambia has helped:

• stimulate action to address underperforming indicators
• improve accountability and transparency
• improve management decision making processes
• facilitates engagement and resource mobilisation by partners

Scorecard Hub’s progress in 2021 and plans for 2022

Dr Elizabeth Chizema, ALMA’s Scorecard Hub Lead and End Malaria Council Advisor, presented the progress the Scorecard Hub made last year and the exciting plans for new content to help countries with their scorecards in 2022.

13 countries
have shared a total of 171 scorecards on the Scorecard Hub (including malaria, RMNCAH and NTDs scorecards)

1,400 certificates
have been issued with our online courses

Plans for 2022

Our plans for 2022 include:

• continuing to support countries share their scorecard on the hub, so all citizens can have access to quality data
• launching 3 new online courses – including a course to support our youth champions with advocacy for malaria elimination and a course to support community engagement with the scorecard.
• continuing to support countries document their best practices and help countries learn from each other
